The Fallen Shield’s Officer Down Memorial Fund began in 2005 with the recruits at the Palomar College Police Academy dedicating their year to an officer who had died in the line of duty. The initial purpose was to not only honor a fallen brother, but to teach recruits to train at their best and to value each day with humility, pride and honor.
The idea evolved and Academy Recruits began hosting fundraisers in the memory of a fallen officer, collecting all proceeds and putting them into an account for the officer’s child or children who were left behind. The mission of The Fallen Shield’s Officer Down Memorial Fund is to raise money for trust funds for the children of peace officers that are killed in the line of duty. 100% of the proceeds from our events go directly to the children of the officer being honored by that Academy class.
